Common Vaping FAQs
Many vapers encounter similar questions when starting out, such as how to properly use their device, why vapor production might decrease, how long batteries last, what causes e-liquid leaks, and whether vaping is allowed on airplanes. Other frequent concerns include charging safety, coil replacement frequency, nicotine strength selection, device maintenance, and warranty coverage. Understanding these basics helps optimize the vaping experience while ensuring safety and device longevity.
Priming is critical to prevent dry hits and extend coil longevity. Start by dripping 4-5 drops of e-liquid directly into the coil’s cotton wicking ports. Then, fill your tank and let it sit upright for 15-20 minutes (thicker 70%+ VG liquids may need 30 minutes). Before firing, take 3-5 unpowered “primer puffs” by inhaling without pressing the button to draw liquid into the coil. Begin vaping at 10-15W below your coil’s recommended wattage, gradually increasing over 20 puffs. This 3-step process (drip-wait-ramp) allows complete cotton saturation. Poor priming is the #1 cause of premature coil failure, often showing as burnt taste within 48 hours. For mesh coils, extend the waiting period by 5 extra minutes as their larger surface area requires deeper saturation.
Modern devices use LED codes for diagnostics:
Solid light then off: Firmware error – try resetting with 5 quick button pressesAlways consult your manual as patterns vary by brand. Ignoring these warnings may void warranties.
Slow blink (1-second intervals): Battery below 20% – recharge immediately to prevent over-discharge damage
Rapid blink (3x fast flashes): Short circuit detected – check for:• Coil resistance below device minimum (often <0.1Ω)• E-liquid leakage on 510 connector (clean with 99% isopropyl alcohol)• Loose coil connections (tighten all contact points)
Alternating red/blue: Temperature protection activated – let device cool for 15 minutes
Coil lifespan depends on:
VG/PG ratios determine which coils/tanks work best:
For devices unused >2 weeks:
Reactivation: After storage:• Inspect batteries for swelling• Wash tanks with warm water• Prime coils as newImproper storage may permanently damage batteries and cause e-liquid flavor changes. For >6 month storage, consider removing batteries entirely.
Battery care: Charge to 40-60% before storage – full charge degrades capacity, empty risks deep discharge
Tank maintenance: Empty e-liquid completely to prevent o-ring degradation
Coil preservation: Remove and store separately in ziplock bags with silica gel packets
Environment: Store in temperature-controlled (15-25°C) spaces – avoid garages/cars where temperatures fluctuate
